Ruin of Peggau Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Amen.

Geocache Description:

Ever wondered about the ruin that can be seen from the highway driving 20 km north of Graz on the east side? Well, now it´ s time to get there.
Here is our first hidden multi-cache. Notice that the ruin itself can not be entered, it is private property.
Happy Geocaching :-)

It can be easily done with children at any season and is situated near Peggau, 20 km north of Graz. Estimate a comfortable walk of approx. 1-2 hours. The chache itself is divided into 2 stages: Stage 2 is the cache itself, stage 1 is a film-canister with the coordinates of the cache.
To get the coordinates of stage 1 keep your eyes open and take a pencil with you! On your way you will pass a waterfall, the ruin and a monument (indicating a dark chapter of Austria`s history)
We would appreciate if you could take a photo and put it online or sign the log-book at least.

OK and here we go:

At N 47°11.949` E 15°21.267` you`ll find a parking-space if you come by car.
The walk begins at N 47°11.983` E 15°21.150`. Here you will find yourself in front of some curious kind of open-air cage. Notice the signpost "Peggauer Rundwanderweg", which you will follow more (up to 3 hours) or less (at least 1 1/2 hour by taking short cuts) within the next time. Coordinates of stage 1: N 47°AB.C0` E 15°BA.DED`

Pay attention to the green number of adress-shield of the "cage": Let the sum of the first and last number be E.
On your way you will soon pass a resting-space. How many swings can you see? Let this be B. How many tables can you see? This is A.

Note March 6th: The swings and the table have been removed because of tree cutting - activities. We don't know whether for temporarily or not, so in the meantime set
A=1 and B=2.

Follow the path according to the signposts for approx. 10 minutes until you get to another bench. Read the fixed shield on it-let the second letter of the first name be D (whereby a=1, b=2, c=3.....) within the coordinates.

Further on in a S-bend you will find a hand-rail on the right side (it's not made of wood!). Count the numbers of the vertical pillars, set this for C.
Now you should be able to find the film canister with the final coordinates.

The cache (15x10x8 cm) originally contained:

log-book and a pencil (do not remove)
description of Geocaching (german, english)
1 pocket-knife
1 key-ring
1 dart arrow
1 flash-light
2 coins
1 model of VW Beetle

Feel free to trade but please leave the cache (and the filmcanister) as well hidden as you found it.

After having discovered the cache don't go uphill, just get back to the path and follow it further on.

If you like you could take a shortcut at

N 47°11,889'
E 15°21,614'

and pass the monument (70 m off that point). This will lead you straight back to the parking-space.
Otherwise by passing the field you will follow the whole path "Peggauer Rundwanderweg".

And now have fun!

Note: the underground could be slippery in winter so we recommend hiking-shoes!
