Schober Blick Traditional Cache

The cache is located almost on top of the mountain Schober (1329m/4360ft) at 1300m/4265ft.
A wonderful hiking path that is being used by many people a day, leads through open space to the top of the mountain. A nice 45 minute hike (one way) will be rewarded with a great view over the lakes Mondsee, Fuschlsee, and Irrsee, as well as the small towns of Thalgau, Mondsee, and Fuschl. On sunny and clear days you will be able to see the mountain Gaisberg near Salzburg, the province on Flachgau and far into the neighboring Germany.

The official starting point will be at the Gasthaus Schlössl in Egg/Wartenfels, which is part of Thalgau and on the way between Thalgau and Fuschl. From the center of Thalgau you will have to take the street Fuschler Strasse (L227) up the ridge of the hills between Thalgau and Fuschl located South of the town Thalgau. From the center of Thalgau it will take almost exactly 6km to the left turn that you will have to make off of L227 and continue on to Egg. That turn off will be from Fuschler Strasse almost at the bottom of the mountain Schober marked with a sign that says "Wartenfels". After that you just follow the flow of the road to the top most point at the bottom of the mountain Schober on the North West side where you will find some parking places for your car. As far as I am concerned, there is no public transportation provided from Thalgau nor from Fuschl to the trail head. Park your car and take the trail first towards the remainders of the castle Wartenfels. From there continue on the trail towards the summit of the mountain. Once you get close to the rocks with the iron steps and wire handrails, you will already have passed the cache location. Get your GPS out right in that area. Make sure you get some decent coverage and you will do just fine.
Another way of how to get to the parking area is to take the road that comes up the ridge of the hills from Fuschl. Take the B158 from Fuschl towards Sankt Gilgen. From the center of Fuschl it will only be about 700m until you will hit the road that goes off towards Thalgau and the mountain Schober. Follow that road for about 2.2km until you will see the sign Wartenfels/Schober at a right turn of towards parking area at the trail head of the mountain Schober.
Like I mentioned earlier, it will take average Jo about 45 minutes from the parking place all the way up to the summit. A lot of people take the trail specially during the weekends and nice summer afternoons and evenings. Take at least some water with you on the way. The restraunt at the bottom of the mountain will have all sorts of drinks - of course beer too! - and local rural cuisine.

Enjoy and have fun searching the cache! Please place it back at the location where you have found it at and make sure that the next people won't find it too easily either. Please make sure that the box is closed well all the way so that no water can enter the box. Also watch out for other hikers and make sure that nobody sees you retrieving the cache from the location and putting it back.

Der Schatz ist fast am Gipfel des Schobers (1329m) in 1300m Seehöhe versteckt. Ein Wanderweg, der von vielen Leuten täglich genutzt wird, führt vom Parkplatz beim Gasthaus unter der Ruine Wartenfels direkt auf den Schober. Eine ca. 45 minütige Wanderung (eine Richtung) wird mit zauberhaftem Ausblick auf den Mondsee, Fuschlsee und Irrsee belohnt, sowie auf die Orte Thalgau, Mondsee und Fuschl. An schönen Tagen sehen sie selbst den Gaisberg und bis weithin in den Flachgau und in das benachbarte Deutschland.
