Der Hemmaberg bei Globasnitz im Jauntal ist 842 m hoch und ist
einer der ältesten Wallfahrtsorte Europas. Zeugnis davon gibt die
Ausgrabung eines großen frühchristlichen Kirchenkomplexes,
bestehend aus fünf Kirchen, entstanden in der Zeit von 400 bis 600
n. Chr., mit Mosaikfunden, die in Globasnitz aufbewahrt werden. Die
heutige Filial- und Wallfahrtskirche am Hemmaberg wurde um 1500
errichtet und im 17. Jahrhundert erweitert. Das spätgotische
Westportal hat als Schwelle ein römerzeitliches Gesimsbruchstück.
Der Innenraum enthält eine Barockausstattung des 17. Jahrhunderts,
Wandmalereien aus dem Jahre 1619 sowie Ölbilder der Hemmalegende.
Unterhalb der Kirche wurde nordseitig in der darunter liegenden
Grotte 1680 die Rosalienkapelle errichtet. Dem Wasser, das unter
der von Suitbert Lobisser 1927 erneuerten Rosalienstatue
entspringt, wird heilkräftige Wirkung zugeschrieben. 2002 wurden
auf den Hemmaberg ein Weg der Besinnung und ein angeschlossener
Meditationspfad ad fontes (www.adfontes.at) errichtet.
The Hemmaberg is the holy mountain of the
Jauntal valley, and 842 m high. It is a former Celtic-Roman
mountain settlement of Juenna, west of Globasnitz and one of the
most important excavation sites of early Christianity in Austria.
In the fortification from the late Antiquity 5 churches and an
octagonal baptistery from the 5th and 6th centuries A.D. have been
excavated. Preserved parts of the tessellated floors exhibited in
the museum of Globasnitz. The unique early-Christian church complex
on the Hemmaberg may have served as a place of pilgrimage.
Northwest of the antique buildings you find the St. Hemma
late-Gothic pilgrimage church (first documented mention 1498-1519)
with baroque interior. In the St. Rosalia grotto below the church
the St. Rosalia chapel was built in the late 17th century. The
water originating below the Rosalia statue is said to be curative.
Since 2002, there is a path of meditation "ad fontes"
(www.adfontes.at) onto the Hemmaberg.
