Iron Horse Trail - Hyak to Rattlesnake lake
Public
The Iron Horse trail (it's also known as the John Wayne Pioneer Trail) is a rails-to-trails conversion of the old Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railbed. From the high point at Snoqualmie Pass it runs through a two mile long tunnel then is a 2-3% grade down to Rattlesnake lake (south of North Bend) where it connects to the Snoqualmie trail. The tunnel is closed from November to May. The trail follows the southern side of the pass above I-90 and crosses several high trestles. It's about 22 miles for this segment of the Iron Horse. The surface is hard packed gravel suitable for fat tire bicycles or hiking. The state parking area at Hyak is now free. You can also park free at Garcia, it's in the middle of the route at N47 25.436 W121 37.280, and at Rattlesnake Lake.
