I worked on my 'honey do' project some more this morning and took the rest of the day off after lunch since the temperature was in the high 60's !! Well, actually I did clue #1 yesterday and clue #2 first thing this morning. I got to 221b Baker Street about 1:40pm in my T-shirt after I missed the trail (too far north) and did some scrub oaking. Did I mention that I don't like scrub oaking. I met Chuck and his dog while I was coming down the trail (lots of ice on the trail). We chatted for about 15 minutes while I sold him on the joys of geocaching. I tore off the lower left corner of my clue sheet so he could look it up on the internet. Thanks sparrowpi for another adventure.

First of the day (of 4). I like these ones--I barely saw a single soul from leaving my Jeep and returning to my Jeep. Nice views in several directions. I crammed "Friendly Flea" into the cache so he needs to be rescued by someone soon. I'm not sure if he is claustrophobic or not. TN/SL. Great cache.


A Devil of a Hike

I searched for this one over several days. The first stop is less than 500 feet from where I work. I actually got chased away from the next to last stop and returned a few days later. I was fortunate enough to meet up with vorticity and we agreed on the coordinates for the last stop (thanks vorticity). I definitely approached the last destination from the wrong direction, but found a survey marker (BDY6) on the way. I picked up small TB yesterday that was small enough to put into this cache, so I left "Uncle Sammy's Key Component". Another great sparrowpi adventure!!

My 11th sparrowpi cache. The more I just sat near the final site and and looked and listened the more I loved the location. What a beautiful day to be caching in Colorado. I was in the Boston area this past week and brought back a TB (Smilie Sweetheart). Left TB and took nothing.


BEADazzled Cache

It's my pleasure to be the first to log this incredible cache. Definitely not for the timid cacher. It was a rush doing this one, especially solo. I was glad to get back to soil after my scramble to the top. This cache is good stuff--I'm putting it on my all-time top 25 list. Swapped coins. 


Blodgett's Shadow

I was in the area. I didn't take the actual challenge because I used the directions to get me there. It was challenging enough even with the directions. I love to scramble. The views were awesome--don't get that close without finishing the ascent to the top. I did not find the Surfin Woody TB which supposedly got placed yesterday. I was looking forward to taking the TB to Mass with me in two weeks. I don't think its in the cache. I took the CTU carabiner and left a $1.00 coin. I also took the liberty of tossing out the 'bud' too. Great Cache.


Cap Rock Challenge

I really liked this one. The nice trail, the weather--very warm and zero clouds, the awesome views of the Academy and the plains, the clever waypoint hides, and of course--the challenging finale. It took me about an hour and a half from waypoint 1 to the final and then I went up and over to 'Forget Me Not'--that was...fun ! 


Cliff Hanger

Came over the ridge from the east up from 'Cliff Hanger'. Lots of arduous bushwhacking through the forest. This was my second visit to this site. The first time I visited was in 1987 or 88 when I was stationed at the Academy. I summitted Blodgett and saw the crash site from there and had to come and check it out, half expecting to find some dead bodies. Was I relieved to know that it had been there for a long time. Hooked up with two other cachers here today and we returned to civilization by hiking down to Trail 713 and onto the Air Force Academy. Hiked up to the Burger King and started rehydrating while waiting for my daughter to come and give my tired butt a ride back to my Jeep over at the Blodgett Trailhead. Long hot day, at least I burned a few calories and made a few friends. 

Forget Me Not - WWII Crash Site

I've been scratching my head over this one for about six months now and I've been wanting to get it done because it has been the closest Not Found Yet for me to my home coordinates. Well, I was at a picnic today expounding on the qualities of the sport of geocaching when my wife suggested that I show one of my friends Geometric Mystery and since I had it with me I let one of my friends go ponder it for a while. After less than 30 minutes he showed me the clue and asked "are these the numbers?" Smart aleck--thanks Rob. I plotted the coordinates on my map, made some time calculations and figured I could get there before sunset. I found the cache at 7:10pm after parking at the right spot and hiking in. I love being alone in the woods. And to make it worth the trip I left one of those new fangled WJTBs (Parnel) and took nothing but the peace and solitude that came with the trip. Now Entropy is at the top of my list (darn)


Geometric Mystery

Went to the 1st site on Tues(5/17) after work and found the 1st clue without much difficulty, except for the muggles nearby. Went home, had dinner, and then headed out to the 2nd site with my 9-year old daughter. After finding the site she hung out a few hundred feet to the East of the site for some fun. Came home and I used the decoder manual I use on a daily basis to get the coordinates for the next site. After work on Wednesday night I went home, changed, and headed out. It was past dark when I hit the trail, but the temperature was still in the 60's and there was a half moon on a clear night. I got to the general location and hunted by headlamp for less than half an hour when I found what I was looking for at 9:45pm! I signed the log as a FTF, headed back to the Jeep, and was home in bed past my bedtime. I fed some very hungry scrub oak along the way, but that's part of the deal. Don't let the 4/4 scare you away from this GREAT CACHE. 


GODSPEAK

I wanted to get one more HR cache done before I went to the geocaching event today in Colorado Springs. I found the first waypoint at 8:30am when the temperature was 16 degrees below zero!! There was fresh snow on the ground from last night's weather so I went back to my Jeep to solve the clue--it only took about an hour. At about 11:00am I decided to go for the next waypoint and found it with a little bit of difficulty due to the snow. I looked for the next waypoint also but had to get to the geocaching event before it ended. I spoke to HR at the event which encouraged me to go back for the final as soon as the event was over. With some keen eyesight and some perseverence in the still very cold weather and ground covered in snow I found the final location at 4:00pm. It was a good day. Other HR caches are on my 'to do' list.


HEX-TRAP-o-LATE

Hiked over from "A Devil of A Hike". Stayed close to the summit ridge most of the way. Got sprinkled on while I was signing the log. Still had some very awesome views. I first climbed Blodgett in the late 1980s while I was stationed at the USAFA. I climbed straight up the east side (from Pine Valley housing) and slogged through the scree. I also visited the plane crash back then. The weather kept me from attempting the crash site today. Coming from the west today was quite different and going back down a trail was even better! TN/LN/SL. Great cache!


Hilltop at Blodgett peak

Two visits in two days for this cache! This was my third of the day and second jjasks cache of the day. I have been up here before when I was stationed at USAFA sometime between 87-92. On my way over to Meadow Muffin from here. I'm trying to burn a few winter pounds off.


Hilltop at Eagles Lookout (Goat Camp Creek)

I can't believe it took almost 7 weeks for someone to find this cache! I found it at about 10:45am and since it was just sitting there for the taking I decided to go for it today along with three others up here. I was thinking that I was going to find a log in the book that hadn't been logged on the site yet. The going after that 'critical turn' will get you breathing pretty heavy, but it's worth it. Thanks for a very nice FTF geocaching coin.

jjasks revenge

I did this one in several different stages over the last month or so. My daughter and I met LauraColorado on the way to the first clue the day we were in the first park. We tried to get to the second location and got there as it was getting dark. I went back alone a few days later and went straight to the clue (a typical professional pudentane masterpiece). I did the next stage that same day and waited until I had a beautiful Saturday morning to get to the final location. It was a good workout. This is the third time I have been to this particular location and each time I'm totally dumbfounded by the very unique sight of the ladybugs. I even know that they are going to be there and I'm still surprised. A legitimate educated guess for today would have to be the high tens of thousands.

I did the first stop on Wednesday; the second and third stops on Thursday; the fourth stop on Friday; and the final stop this morning (Saturday) at ~9:30am. The weather was beautiful and the quietness was blissful. I took a CD of sounds (which I listened to on the way back home) and left a Swiss army knife. I took a picture with the camera (12 left?). This is a cache I would do if I had company coming to visit! Great cache.


Lonesome Pine

I went to the initial location back in January and just put the gibberish aside until one day quite by accident I found something to help me solve the gibberish. I plugged in the final coordinates and waited for a nice Saturday morning to go hunting. When I got to the final location I looked around for about half an hour until I had an 'aha' moment which had the desired results. Either I overlooked the 'Letter G' TB or it wasn't there (it got placed yesterday and there were no logs between myself and the TB placer) I think I could have overlooked it due to its size and I should have paid more attention. I only drew blood three times on this one--nothing serious. Took nothing and left a $1.00 coin. Great Cache 

Playfair's Extreme Geocacher Test

Puma Cache

This was an Excellent Adventure Rick. I got the first clue a few weeks ago and let it sit. I got the second clue last weekend and thought I was at another dead end. After seeing the cache owner this morning at a CITO event and getting a little tiny hint I was able to go home and get the next clue. Since it was still early in the day and the weather was looking pretty good I headed for the next waypoint. The weather was so nice I kept going and soon I was walking through the woods in shorts and a T-shirt. When I got to the final location I didn't have anything to trade for the Jeep TB that I came to get so I hiked back to my Jeep and got a 1962 Franklin half dollar and a golf ball and hiked back in. It was worth it because the area around the final is beautiful and I got me a Jeep TB!  It was helpful to have done several Sparrow and Ron caches in the past, but not essential if one is wearing their thinking cap. Thanks again.

This one has been sitting here for 7 months waiting for someone to visit. I bushwhacked over from a relatively new cache (jjasks revenge--3/05). Took less than 45 minutes from there. This is one BIG cache full of good stuff. The hot rod TB wasn't in the cache. Someone visited and swapped TBs without logging the hot rod out and the other TB in. I took the CocoCola TB. On my way over to Hilltop at Eagles Lookout from here. TFTC
