Geocache Description:

Update (8/10/19): BEWARE THE STINGING NETTLES! I suggest pants. This is nothing new, but many seem not to read the description and then complain about what they find.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update (8/6/13): Seekers, PLEASE read the description. If you try to start from Sycamore Trail/Cedar falls, you are taking the hard way in and will likely have to endure a creek crossing and excessive bushwacking, potentially through stinging nettle. You've been warned.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the second in a series of caches geared (pardon the pun) toward geocaching by mountain bike. While all of the caches can be accessed on foot, they are generally on or near mountain bike trails, and may be a bit further from parking than most would like to walk. This cache is located off one of the trails in the Hueston Woods Mountain Bike trail system and was placed with permission of the Park Director. It is not suitable for a road bike. As was promised in DMB1, this cache is farther from parking. I recommend getting the bike out for it! It is suitable for non-bikers but be prepared for a trail hike.

Please stay on the trails until within 100 ft of the cache. The cache was placed in the fall, and no significant bushwacking was required, but the area may be more overgrown in the spring. You were warned :-) In terms of trails, there are probably a dozen or more trails that will get you in the area. For maximum effect, follow the blue trail from the Mountain Bike parking area to the left along the road and up the hill. At the crest take your pick of red trails to get there.

The cache is off a red trail. If you're more faint of heart, follow the gravel road back into the group camp area and take the green and blue trails along the lake into the area. Using this route, you can stay off the more hazardous red trails until you get to the cache. Following the lake route you can get on the red trail near the cache and avoid all the hazards. This location was carefully picked so as to provide both an easy to moderate bike route AS WELL AS several moderate to challenging routes.

Be careful, especially if the ground is wet. The descent to the cache from up on the hill is dangerous. If you are not an experienced mountain biker, I suggest following the lake route and avoiding the hill. If you are experienced however, going up the hill and following red trails down will give you the best views and the most exciting trails Hueston Woods offers.

Please try to resist the urge to wade and or bushwack from the Sycamore Trail/Cedar Falls area. While it may get you to the cache sooner, it may be damaging to the environment, and it certainly defeats the purpose of the cache! This is my second cache, and I'd appreciate feedback on the listing, the cache itself, or it's location. You're looking for the traditional ammo can. The cache was initially stocked with new Matchbox vehicles with a military theme (in the package) in the spirit of quality, not quantity. Keeping the military theme in trade items is appreciated but not required. I intend to keep my logs, so please try to keep the custom log in good condition. Finding the cache just to log it is also welcome. Be sure to check out the other cache(s) at this State Park!
