Geocache Description:

The VT 3-Plus DeLorme Challenge, is for geocachers who enjoy hiking 3 star terrain or higher - “I’m in it for the exercise” geocaching. * * * Please note: THE COORDINATES POSTED ON THIS PAGE ARE NOT THE COORDINATES FOR THE FINAL CACHE!! But it’s a great place to stop for breakfast, The Wayside Diner.

Are you ready for the next Level Vermont caching challenge? Are you looking for some bragging rights? Many states, inclucing VT, have a DeLorme challenge. This one is different.

* * * 3-Plus means a terrain rating of 3 stars or higher.

A 3 star cache is described as, “Not suitable for small children. (The average adult or older child should be OK depending on physical condition. Terrain is likely off-trail. May have one or more of the following: some overgrowth, some steep elevation changes, or more than a 2 mile hike.)”

The Vermont DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer has 36 map pages (page no. 20 to 55). At the time of listing, 31 of these map pages have a cache with a 3-plus terrain level. You need to find at least 1, 3-plus VT cache, from each of the 36 pages of the VT Delorme to complete this challenge (page 37 is a split map and either inset will count). There were no 3-plus caches on map pages 24, 27, 32, 43, 50 (Yet).
When in doubt about ANYTHING, please email me.

1. Find a 3-plus cache within the boundaries of each page of the DeLorme Vermont Atlas & Gazetteer. It has to be a bonafide cache. If a page overlaps into another state, then the cache find must be within the state of Vermont.

2. Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged. You may NOT include caches found prior to Jan 5, 2007, the creation of the original Challenge. Any 3 plus cache found after Jan. 5, 2007 can be counted for this VT 3 Plus DeLorme Challenge.

3. At the time I wrote this there was at least 1, 3-plus cache on 31 different pages. If you wish to place a 3-plus cache on one of the vacant pages, (or if you’ve found all the 3-plus caches on a page) or if you just feel like placing one for that matter, then you can complete the page requirements by placing a 3-plus cache within the lat/long coordinates for that particular page. Note: A new hide, which is overrated, will not qualify as a hide for this challenge. Remember that caches must be maintained as well. If after getting credit for the overall find, your cache is archived (within 2 months), your find will be deleted until that section is completed again.

4. After completing the challenge you will need to send me a list of the 3-plus caches found or hidden so it can be verified that you have completed the Vermont DeLorme Challenge. I will need the DeLorme map page #, waypoint # (GC#), cache name, date found, and lat/long coords. (I am working on an automated verificaton program) I will then send you the coordinates to the final cache and log book. You can list everything as a note for all or an email will do. I will periodically set up something to see where everyone stands in the stats.

5. Feel free to bookmark this cache and the caches that you plan to attempt for your Vermont challenge for all to see.

6. If you find the cache by accident, your log will be deleted until you complete the challenge. If a group finds the final cache, only the cacher completing the challenge will be allowed to log a find. All other finds will be deleted. Notes are accepted.

7. 2 cachers may place a cache together as a joint hide (Its safer to hike with a friend), and both claim it as a Hide to complete the map page. But no more than 2 cachers can claim it as a hide, and it must be at least 2 miles round trip. Otherwise, place your own.

8. A caches listed coordinates and listed state are the ones I will use to verify the Map page, not necessarily the final of a multi or puzzle cache.
There are some serious bragging rights at stake people! The FTF prize is not much, but should be enjoyed by the lucky cacher.

Here are boundary line coordinates for the purpose of qualification.
