The first stage and final cache are located off trails in a semi-wild area at the extreme western edge of O'Hauser Park. You will hear the sounds of the wild at this site, with cardinals, blue-jays, juncos, chickadees, and downy and red-bellied woodpeckers frequenting the area. Rabbits and squirrels are abundant, and the call of coyotes has been heard in the distance on some nights. Wood ducks, mallards, and sandhill cranes nest in the marshy areas just south of the cache locations. You may see deer up close, especially at the first stage coordinates.
The first stage is a micro containing the location for the final. This is near a triangle formed by trails on the western edges of the park. You can chart a path to this location at the carved wood trail map near the baseball diamond at the trail head.
While the cache itself is winter-friendly, getting to it in the winter may involve a bit of a trek on snowy trails. Enjoy your search in this wild area; go quietly and you will see and hear a lot of wildlife. Help preserve the natural beauty of the area by doing a little CITO as you go.
The small cache container at the final has a log book and pencil, and is initially stocked with a few small trade items, including commemorative state quarters with wildlife, some small salamanders like those that appear in the park in the summer, and some polished agates.
NOTE: THIS IS A THEME CACHE RELATED TO THE EXPERIENCE OF THE NATURE AND THE ABUNDANCE OF WILDLIFE IN THIS CORNER OF THE PARK. Trade items should relate to this theme, like the items initially placed in the cache. Suitable trade items might include small bird calls, geocoins with natural or wildlife themes, or a simple note in the log book about a bird or plant species you heard or saw during your search.
