I'm a boy, so when I think about scouts I think about building fires, making shelters and tying rope knots, but even I was amazed the breadth of skills taught to today's Girl Scouts to prepare them for entry into the modern world. From global awareness to adventure sports, the Girl Scouts have come a long way since their inception 95 years ago this week. The fact that they have a "Geocaching" badge, even if it is just for fun, tells you something of the organization and how they're staying with the times.
This year marks the 95th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts as a nationally recognized organization and this week, March 9th though the 15th, is National Girl Scout Week. This is the second of 2 caches to mark these auspicious anniversaries.
I thought it would be interesting to compare merit badges from that bygone era and the present day. To find the final coordinates you'll need to properly pair the merit badges pictured below with one of the requirements to earn a badge. There are an equal number of Junior Scouts merit badges pictured from the 1920's and from the present day.
On your way to the final, you can stop in and verify your findings by seeing the current merit badges for yourself. I've included that waypoint. When hunting for the final, please use a great deal of care searching the structure upon which it is hidden as there is no need to disturb it. You are looking for a black nano within 30' of the coordinate solution. Please just INITIAL the log sheet, no dates necessary.
Lastly, if you have any young scouts of your own, you should let them attempt to find the bonus cache so the reward at the end will have even more merit.
