Vuojoki Mansion in Eurajoki
Vuojoen kartanon historia ulottuu 1500-luvulle. 1830-luvulla kartanon omistajaksi tuli isokyröläinen Björkenheimin aatelissuku. Tuolloin valmistui kartanon nykyinen, C. L. Engelin suunnittelema uusklassismia edustava päärakennus. Kartanon maaomaisuus oli 1800-luvulla noin 13 000 hehtaaria ja kartano työllisti satoja palkollisia, mäkitupalaisia ja torppareita. Vuoden 1918 torpparivapautuksen jälkeen Vuojoen torppien ja mäkitupien maista muodostettiin 308 itsenäistä pientilaa. Vuojoen kartano oli maitokarjatalouden edelläkävijä. Nautoja oli parhaimmillaan satoja ja heinää viljeltiin pelloilla jo varhaisessa vaiheessa. Isäntäväen harrastuksiin kuului talvipuutarha, jossa kasvoivat ilmeisesti maailman pohjoisimmat satoa tuottavat ananakset ja persikat.
Vuojoen kartano yhtiöitettiin vuonna 1911. 1930-luvulla kartano siirtyi Eurajoen kunnalle ja muutettiin vanhainkodiksi. Vuonna 1999 Eurajoelle valmistui uusi vanhainkoti ja kartano päätettiin kunnostaa edustuskäyttöön. Kartano on nyt (2007) restauroitu ja talvipuutarhaa restauroidaan parhaillaan.
Kartanoa ympäröi puisto, jossa on komeaa vanhaa puustoa. Puisto rajoittuu Eurajokeen, jonka rannalla on paikoin säilynyt hienoa rantalehtoa. Joen törmällä on pesinyt kuningaskalastaja ja kartanon puistossa nokkavarpunen. Keväällä Verkkokarin, Auvin, Linnamaan ja Hankkilan kylien pelloilla levähtää suuria laulujoutsen- ja hanhiparvia, joten lintuharrastajan kannattaa ajoittaa Vuojoella käyntinsä kevääseen. Kartanon puistossa on usein esillä tilataidetta. Kartanon vanha kuusikuja on näkemisen arvoinen.
Kätkö on helpohko, mutta talvella se saattaa jäädä lumen alle. Sopii lapsiperheille.
Vuojoki Mansion was first mentioned as early as the 16th century. It was then owned by Hartvik Henriksson from Kokemäki. At the beginning of the 17th century the de la Gardie family became the owners san after a few changes in ownership, Marshal Åke Tott, who lived in the Mansion himself. The following owners were Gustaf Spoon, Councilor, and subsequently, his daughter and grand daughter, who marriage became a member of the von Fersen family. The following heir, O. W. von Klinckowström was also a von Fersen from his mother’s side and a colourful character in the high society. He also lived at Vuojoki for some time.
But the Mansion did not really beging to flourish until the 1830s, when Captain Lars Magnus Björkman (ennobled in 1834 Björkenheim) from Isokyrö became the owner. Among the achievements of 1836 were the completion of current main building designed by C. L. Engel and an ambitious greenhouse and garden plan. In the middle of the 19th century Vuojoki Mansion winter garden had perhaps the world’s northernmost pineapple and peach plantations.
The ownership of the Björkenheim family ended 1911. The forest property of the mansion interested forestry enterprises, and the Mansion was converted into a limited company named Vuojoki Gods Ab. The main owners were the future founders of Rauma factories, K. A. and H. G. Paloheimo, and Mr. N. Toivonen, a businessman. However, the massive enterprise become too much for their finances. The United Bank of the Northern Countries came to rescue, assuming the responsibility for the financing of the company. This was the beginning of Rauma-Repola Rauma factories, one of the best-known companies in Finland.
In the 1930s Eurajoki Municipality became the owner of Vuojoki Mansion and its grounds. The Mansion was then inappropriately given over for institutional use. In 1999 it was decided that the valuable Mansion premises would be renovated to serve enterprises, tourism and culture in the area. Plans for changes and renovations were initiated. Later on, Vuojoki Foundation was established to lead activity in the multiactivity center.
Cache is easy, but in winter cache may be covered by snow. Cache is suitable for children.
