To get to this one you will have to walk from Lake Iezer up a dried
river valley, across a plateau and down a small hill side. It's
relatively easy. The altitude is about 1200m ASL.
This is a nice day trip to see the countryside. Start at Lake Iezer
(nice place for a picnic). Follow the painted trail signs leading
NW of the lake to Ciumarnu Plateau. From there head towards the
"Horse Hole" Cave (see extra waypoints). This is not a deep cave
and should only take you 10 minutes to explore but the water carved
limestone formations are beautiful and make a nice preview to those
of the Bisericuta Cave. After this cave, head straight towards the
Bisericuta Cave geocache. Obviously it's easiest to stick to the
open fields of the plateau and not to walk up and down hills and
dells. When you get to the edge of the plateau you will have to
walk down a further few meters to get to the entrance to the
Bisericuta cave. The geocache is around there so start searching.
If you don't get it, or if your GPS isn't getting a good signal,
check out the spoiler photos. After you have found the geocache, be
sure to check out the cave. You'll need a flashlight for sure.
Watch out for a couple of holes in the floor. In one of the middle
galleries, are some large stalagmites that (apparently, according
to someone elses judgement) look like a priest, his altar and his
wife. Near the back, is a magnificent gallery with many small
stalacticles less than 1cm in thickness.
We have placed several other geocaches in the Trascau Mountains at
scenic or historic locations, so in a day you could check out a few
of them.
We are currently making a map of the zone that you can load into
your GPS before going. Our first draft map can be downloaded from
