Another hide while visiting dad. I can't believe how few geocaches are in the area. I've been really spoiled!
This is just such a neat place. They do offer tours but you can check out the dungeon during any daylight hours.
The Dungeon: Discovered in 1964 under the 124-year old jail in McConnelsville, the dungeon was used from 1833 to 1839. It was essentially a hole, built in respose to frequent escapes from the county log-cabin jail.
Once prisoners climbed down into the sandstone-lined pit, which was 22 feet deep, 5 feet wide and 11 feet long, a guard dragged a stone slab across the opening.
Visitors to the dungeon these days can experience what it must have been like without dropping into a hole: when it was moved next to the Rock Hollow School in Malta in 1994, the dungeon was turned so it is now horizontal, rather than vertical.
NOTE: DO NOT HUNT ON TUESDAYS, There is NO PARKING on Tuesdays
My dad will provide maintence when I am not in the area visiting, but when hunting season comes, I might need an local cacher to help! :-)
