Geocache Description:

The John H. Allison Memorial Forest

These replanted grounds have been named in
honor of the University of Minnesota professor
who in 1914 guided the establishment and for the
following 54 years served as a technical advisor in the
development of this protection and research forest

Take the time to enjoy a beautiful hike into the John H. Allison Memorial Forest, located in the Vadnais-Snail Lake Regional Park.

By parking at the listed parking coordinates, you will be greeted by a magnificent stand of White Pine to your right and a stand of Red Pine to your left to begin your trek.  It appears to me that these Red Pine are nearing their lifetime and the hardwood understory is replacing these conifers as they decay.  Follow the paved walkway to the Ski Trail Access 200 feet away, just past the "John H. Allison Memorial Forest" sign.  From here, you will be treated to a wonderful walk out to the cache along a gravel road. Stay on the trail until you are within 50 feet of GZ. Do not bushwack to the cache, as the shorter route will be the longer route.   Along the way I saw some impressive deer trails through the woods (crossings marked with coordinates).  On my walk, I saw many rabbits and heard the call of Loons when placing the cache.  You will cross a footbridge over a stream feeding the St. Paul Water system.

You are looking for a small ammo can that is full of trading goodies for all ages.  The hiding spot is pretty obvious if your GPS is affected by the leaf canopy.  Please do not leave any food, flammable materials, or non-kid friendly stuff.  I did pass 3 bikes and one runner at 7 am, so there will be muggles close, as the cache is located not far off the trail to reduce the impact on the environment.

Some basic Ramsey County Parks rules apply here:
-No Pets
-Park hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
-No Fishing on this side of the lake.
-Looks like bikes are allowed here, as there were no signs to the contrary.

When accessing the area in winter, please do not walk in the set Cross-county Ski tracks.

There are some shorter ways in, but County Road F is posted "No Parking", so just use the legal parking spot.  If it's full, there is an additional parking lot on the north side of County Road F.

Please use only established entry points and observe any "No Trespassing" signage.

Have fun and be safe.
