A small camo vitamin bottle hidden just about 15 feet or so off the path. About a quarter-mile from the parking area as the crow flies.
What a BEAUTIFUL day today when I did this hike! The field immediately around the parking area was saturated with Rudbeckia and native prairie grasses. Descending into the woods on the trail there are great oaks, straigh osages, and nice shagbark hickory trees, among others. You then emerge into more upland open prairie, and I'll bet this is a good hike any time of the year!
"Located approximately 3.5 miles southeast of Dubuque on Olde Davenport Road near the intersection with Schueller Heights Road. This 78 acre parcel was donated to the Dubuque County Conservation Board in February of 1988 by the Interstate Power Company, who maintains a substation on the site. The area contains approximately 8 acres of restored prairie, 15 acres of gently rolling grassland, and the rest is made up of a heavily forested woodland dissected by deep ravines containing spring-fed streams. A 1.5 mile trail directs hikers through the area and is the only development planned for this natural area. A small lot at the site provides parking for the hikers."
This description is from the Dubuque County Conservation Board website. This cache placed with their permission. The cover will always be problematic for the coordinates, which is why I gave the distance off the trail as an aid. Please replace the cache carefully, and have fun!
