 A Serra da Freita faz parte do Maciço de Gralheira, juntamente com a Serra da Arada (1057 m.) e do Arestal (830 m.), ultrapassando alguns dos seus cumes os 1000 m. de altitude. Ao longo da sua vasta extensão, para além de muitos outros atractivos, pode deparar-se com a Fecha da Mizarela, a secular capela da Sra. da Lage, o fenómeno único das Pedras Parideiras, a Portela da Anta e algumas das aldeias mais características da região, como a Castanheira, Cabreiros e Cando. A Freita alberga, no seu seio, espécies faunísticas e florísticas raras, algumas mesmo em vias de extinção. O coberto vegetal predominantemente constituído pela urze e pela carqueja, e nas zonas de encosta, por pinheiros, carvalhos, medronheiros e azevinho, protege o javali, a águia de asa redonda, entre outros. Para além do rio Caima, nascem nela múltiplos ribeiros de águas cristalinas que, vencendo abismos e serpenteando montes, vão engrossar os caudais do Paiva e do Arda.
Para apreciar toda esta beleza decidi colocar este cache no seu ponto mais alto - S.Pedro Velho (1077m).
Já agora aproveitem para fazer as outras caches que existem nos arredores (Jump of the water, Pedras Parideiras).
ATENÇÃO: Embora o trilho até ao Vértice Geodésico seja de fácil acesso, recomendo cuidados (em especial com crianças) ao procurar o cache pois existem muitas pedras grandes e é fácil acontecer uma queda. |

 The Serra da Freita (sierra of Freita) is part of the Gralheira Cordillera, with Arada Sierra (1057 m) and Arestal Sierra (830 m), with some peaks over 1000 m. high. In Serra da Freita you can find many interesting attractions like Mizarela’s water fall, the secular chapel of Our lady of Lage and the unique geological phenomenon of the Parideiras stones (Birthgiving stones), the archeological monument of Portela of Anta and some of the most typical villages of the region, such as Castanheira, Cabreiros and Cando. The Freita is a natural shelter for vegetal and animal species. You can enjoy the Caima river, born from multiple streams of crystalline water, which creates the Mizarela’s water fall, maybe the highest waterfalls in Portugal (60m).
To enjoy all this beauty, I decided to put this cache in its highest point - St. Peter Velho (1077m).
I recommend looking for the other caches in Area (Jump of the water, stones Parideiras).
WARNING: Although the trail is easy to access, be careful (especially with children) to find the cache because there are many large rocks and it is easy to fall. |
