Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Located along Bear Creek, should not be to much of a challenge. You
will need to climb a couple of hills and the trail is rather grown
up in places, which will make for some trip hazards so please be
careful. Early fall and summer you will have a lot of grass, ferns
and goldenrods to put up with. Would recommend wearing long pants
year round to this cache..
The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular
geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT),
a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and
positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest
region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing
interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the
area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten
participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking
rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail
Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum
of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport
validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at
participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport
with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Click on
the Allegheny GeoTrail Logo below to visit the AGT website at
www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of
participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT
passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at
www.geocaching.com .
(Cache is located on Alleghany National Forest so please
follow all ANF rules. If you notice any problems in the cache
area, due to caching traffic please let me know. Also wear hunter
orange in the hunting seasons for your safety. Fisherman can jump
in Bear Creek at the Bear Creek picnic area and fish their way to
the cache The Well is located just above were POLE RUN meets Bear
Creak. I’m not sure why it was their. I think it had to do with all
the logging that went on in the early 1900s. There are lots of
railroad grades in the area. I used to hike into this area with my
Grandpa and my Dad to trap Beavers. That was about 36 years ago. I
always remembered the Well because we would stop and get a drink on
our way. I don’t think I would drink out of it now! I ‘m really
surprised what time has done to it. It used to be about 3 or 4 feet
higher and the water would shoot out of it about 2 ½ feet. My dad
would always yell at me for getting wet when I was getting a drink.
Boys will be boys. This area was also the host of the Rainbow
Family gathering in the late 1990s. I can remember going to check
it out with some friends. They had large Teepees set up all over
the hollow. And hippies everwhere, It was a site to see. I felt
like I fit right in. If you keep an eye out you will find items
left behind. I found a coffee mug with some unique lacing on it and
a half eaten sandal on my way to place the cache. Boy what
Treasure. There are several ways in to the cache, if you choose one
other than the one I give you, you are on your own. Best place to
park would be at N 41 27.346 W 078 51.134. Start at the jeep trap
after the parking area. N 41 27.367 W078 51.110 Follow the trial to
the bottom of the hill till you think the trial ends. The trail
turns left here, but it is really grown up and hard to follow. If
you go to this waypoint you should be on the trial again N 41
27.167 W078 51.099. From here you are on your own. It is about 3
miles round trip to the cache. At times the trail appears to end
but keep going straight you will see it again; it is really grown
up in places. I really hope you enjoy your Journey.
