AGT-Jefferson-Trailside Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

PAWINGERS: Looks like somebody has found the cache that isn't a geocacher and decided to be nasty. I know they will check on it again and destroy it again so we are archiving it.

Geocache Description:

This should be a pretty easy cache to find and to get to. Much more importantly it should be a very enjoyable trip to the cache along a beautiful trail. We would suggest bringing the mountain bikes along and bike in from the Brockway trailhead to go for this one. You won't be dissapointed.

The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT), a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Visit the AGT website at www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at www.geocaching.com .

We wanted to place a cache here because we really wanted to show off this fantastic trail. We would highly recommend unloading your bikes at the Brockway Trailhead and biking to the cache.

The coords for the trailhead are:
41deg 15.142 & 078deg 47.667

If you are going to hike to the cache you could still park at the trailhead but it will be a pretty good walk. Don't worry about that though because it should be pretty easy to figure out that you can park a lot closer and minimize the hike. Just don't be in such a hurry that you don't take the time to really enjoy this great trail.

The Clarion/Little Toby Creek Rails to Trails will take you through a beautiful and unspoiled forest with a good chance of seeing lots of wildlife. We've seen deer, raccoons, bald eagles, blue herons and black bears quite often along this trail. The trail is 18 miles long. It is 9 miles from Brockway to rte 949 in Carmen and then 9 miles again to Ridgway.

This cache is in State Game Lands so please be cautious and wear flourescent orange during hunting season. We hope you enjoy this cache and this trail.
