Geocache Description:

This is the new version of Going Batty. It has been moved and converted into an Allegheny GeoTrail cache.

The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT), a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Click on the Allegheny GeoTrail Logo below to visit the AGT website at www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at www.geocaching.com .

This is a relocation of the original Going Batty Cache. In addition, it has been converted into a AGT cache. Any one who found the original Going Batty can come, find this one and log it. The posted coords at the top bring you to a parking area with informational signs. You must use the informational signs to answer questions to get the coords for the last stage of this 2 stage cache. If your answers take you to a spot more than 0.11 miles away, you better go back to bat school. The cache is accessible right from the same parking spot.

The coords are represented by: N 41* 3A.BCD W 079* 2E.FGH

N 41* 3___. ___ ___ ___ W 079* 2___. ___ ___ ___

Where:

A=The number of months in an average year that a Bat's Annual Plan indicates that the bat might be in hibernation

B= The number of body parts of a bat that are specifically labeled or referenced in the drawing of How a bat is built

C= Including the U.S. Forest Service, How many agencies and organizations are considered as partners or sponsors of the restoration of this site.

D= The approximate number of decades in the average lifespan of the Little Brown Bat.

E= The number of months each year that a bat might debate whether to migrate or hibernate.

F= The number of bullet points disguised as bat silhouettes in the Blue "Did you know?" section of the Going Batty sign.

G= When the insect hunting is at its best, How many total insects could FOUR (4) Little Brown Bats catch in one second?.

H= The number of months in an average year that a Bat's Annual Plan indicates that the bats usually engaged in mating.

We do NOT recommend anything but long pants and closed sturdy shoes for this cache because there are plenty of thorns in the area. Do not try this with open toed sandals or attempt to bushwack directly to the final cache location unless you like self mutilation and want to experience your skin being shredded by the abundant multiflora Rose Thorns you will find here. The cache can be easily accessed without encountering the thorns if you follow the path in a roundabout way to get you through an opening in the multiflora rose thicket and then use your geosense along with your common sense to pick your way through the open areas to the final hide location. Straight line distance to the cache would be right about 0.10 miles of painful bushwacking or you can take the meandering nicely mowed path and the distance will still only be about 0.12 miles.
