Geocache Description:

First named "Seven Mile Creek" in 1847 (because it was 7 miles from Fond du Lac), the name was changed in 1848 to Lamartine, to honor Alphonse de Lamartine, a French poet and historian popular at the time.

The settlement was fostered in its early days because it was on the Military Road, and not far from the Rock River.

The town had a creamery, church, school, and still houses the local fire department.

The park is adjacent to the creek, and has a picnic shelter.

On May 25th, 2009, a new Veteran's Memorial was dedicated to the local military people. A nice, new area to spend a few moments reflecting on our freedom.
