Geocache Description:

Located off Harold Libbey Trail of Libby Hill Forest Trails the cache will challenge you with terrain variations and wooded camouflage.

Daniel Libby, one of the first settlers of Gray in 1764, owned most of the land west of town including all of Libby Hill, which is named after him. Daniel also donated the cemetery downtown where he now lays in rest. However, sometimes, when he gets sick of traffic jams in front of his grave, he takes a walk back up to his beloved Libby Hill where he can get some peace and quiet. The geocache lies in what we will call 'Daniel's Throne' where it is nice and dry. You can get lots of trail info at the Libby Hill Forest website, Libby Hill Forest You will need to park at the gravel parking lot where the pavement ends at the end across from the Gray-New Gloucester Middle School. The trail heads start on fields behind the Middle School, walk back of the school on the paved driveway. Take the trail head #2 which is the Moose Odyssey trail and follow it for 1/2 mile, turn onto the Harold Libbey Trail marked with red blazes. Use your GPS from there, the cache is about 2 minutes off the trail and will challenge your observation skills. Do not bushwhack to this cache until you are within 500 feet of the cache, there are wetlands in the area and you need to use the trail system to get near the cache. Note, a new trail goes even closer to the cache. The cache is a plastic box the size of a shoe box. Finders have a choice of cool auto gadgets, pins, Whiskey Diploma, patches, and more! Winter accessible via hiking or snowshoeing however avoid groomed ski trails except where allowed.
