Utran erikoinen kirkko on yksi kolmesta Suomen pystyhirsikirkosta ja se kuuluu Joensuun I luokan suojeltaviin rakennuksiin. Kirkko rakennettiin sahateollisuusyhdyskunnan kirkoksi v. 1895. Kirkon rakentamisen suunnittelu alkoi vuonna 1894 ja rakennustöihin osallistui vapaaehtoisesti pullolasitehtaan työväki maksamalla penniveroa tuloistaan. Rakennustyöt tehtiin työmies J. Puumalaisen johdolla, mutta kirkon arkkitehdistä ei ole tarkkaa tietoa
