This earthcache leads you to the unique outdoor exposition
of erratic blocks near the
village of Velka Kras.
Erratic blocks are stones that have been moved by
aglacier from its original location to some new location.
In Europe one can find erratic blocks in the places where the
continental glacier or big mountain glaciers were during the
Cainozoic. The continental glacier slid from Scandinavian mountains
across Sweden, Finland, Denmark, part of the Netherlands, Germany,
Poland and finally reached the Czech border. This means the stones
from northern Sweden could have made a trip up to 1500 km long
before they got to the Moravian Gate.
The largest stone in Europe is probably Triglav's stone near the
village of Tychow Wielki. Geologists estimate its volume at 750
cubic meters and its weight at 2000 tons. The size of this stone is
17 m x 13,5 m. Its height is not known because the stone is
partially buried in the ground.
The erratic blocks consist mostly of granite and similar rocks,
gneiss and migmatite. Erratic blocks in Central Europe originate
mostly in Fennoscandia (Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea and
Finland).
Erratic blocks in the Czech
Republic
In the Czech Republic you can find erratic blocks in Silesia
and in the Javornik salient, around Ostrava and Tesin, in northern
Bohemia, in the Sluknov and Frydlant salients. The size of the
erratic blocks varies and is characteristic of its area.
There are only small erratic blocks in Bohemia,none being bigger
than 1 m. In the Moravian-Silesian area sizes above 1 m
are quite frequent. The largest stone in the Czech Republic is
320x250x155 cm. It has been found in Ostrava – Kuncice. Its
volume is approx. 7 cubic meters and its weight is 18 tons. The
second largest erratic block is the granite stone in Ostrava -
Poruba.
Erratic stones are very frequent in this area. Their size is mostly
below 1 m. The most famous local erratic stone was found in a sand
quarry in Supikovice. Its length is 275 cm. Some fossil resin was
found near this stone too.

Bludne balvany
CZ: Tato earthcache Vas zavede do unikatni
venkovni expozice eratickych balvanu nachazejici se u obce Velka
Kras.
Bludne
neboli eraticke balvany jsou kameny, ktere byly transportovany
ledovcem ze sveho puvodniho mista vyskytu na vetsi ci mensi
vzdalenost.
V
Evrope najdeme bludne balvany na mistech, kam zasahl ve
ctvrtohorach pevninsky ledovec nebo velke horske ledovce. Pevninsky
ledovec se ze skandinavskych hor sunul pres Svedsko, Finsko,
Dansko, cast Nizozemska, Nemecko, Polsko a pronikl az do ceskeho
pohranici. Vidime tedy, ze balvany ze severniho Svedska urazily
cestu dlouhou az 1500 km nez dorazily do Moravske brany.
Nejvetsi balvan v Evrope je pravdepodobne Triglavuv kamen u
Tychowa Wielkiego. Jeho obem odhadli geologove na 750
m3 s
vahou asi 2000 tun. Jeho rozmery jsou 17 a 13,5m, Treti rozmer neni
znam, protoze cast tohoto balvanu je v zemi.
Z
petrografickeho hlediska je vetsina balvanu tvorena zulou a ji
pribuznymi horninami. Dale rulou nebo migmatitem.
Balvany ve stredni Evrope maji puvod vetsinou ve
Fennoskandii (Skandinávie, Baltske more a Finsko).
Bludne balvany v Ceske republice
V Ceské
republice najdeme tyto balvany ve Slezsku, v Javornickem
vybezku, na Ostravsku a Tesinsku. Také v severních
Cechach ve Šluknovském a Frýdlantském vybezku.
Velikost balvanu se v jednotlivých oblastech znacne lisi.
V Cechach se nachazi pouze balvany male velikosti, není
znam ani jeden, který by dosahoval metrove velikosti. Oproti
tomu v moravskoslezske oblasti jsou balvany vetsi nez 1 m
pomerne caste.
Nejvetsi balvan
v Ceské republice byl objeven v Ostrave –
Kuncicích. Ma rozmery 320*250*155 cm. Objem je odhaden na 7
m3 a vazi asi 18 tun. Za druhy nejvetsi balvan je
povazovan zulovy balvan v Ostrave – Porube.
V oblasti, kde
se ted nacházíme, jsou tyto balvany velice caste.
Velikost vetšinou nepresahuje 1m. Nejznamejsi mistni balvan
byl nalezen v piskokvne v Supikovicich. Jeho delka je
275cm. Na této lokalite byl nalezen vedle balvanu i
jantar.
