Per la CACHE vi consigliamo di lasciare l'auto al parcheggio (N44° 03.838' ; E10° 00.035') e, a piedi, costeggiare il muro. Proseguire oltre l'ingresso della zona archeologica. La cache è nel muro!
For the CACHE, leave your car at the parking place (N44° 03.838' ; E10° 00.035'). On foot, go along the wall. Do not enter in the archaeological site, but go on along the wall. The cache is "in the wall"!
La città della LUNA!
Il nome della città deriverebbe dalla sua consacrazione alla dea romana "LUNAE" (appellativo popolare con cui veniva identificata Diana Lucifera), anche in considerazione della forma a falce dell'allora porto.
Dal nome della colonia deriva quello di LUNIGIANA, ovvero la zona fra le province della Spezia e Massa Carrara.
Sin dai tempi antichissimi il porto di Luni veniva utilizzato come attracco per navi commerciali dagli Etruschi e dai Greci.
Da questi è fatta risalire la prima consacrazione del porto alla dea Selene (Luna per i romani).
LUNA venne fondata dai Romani nel 177 a.c. come avamposto militare delle legioni romane nella campagna contro i Liguri.
Nel 109 a.c. i Romani prolungarono la VIA AURELIA collegando Luni con Pisa lungo la costa. Fu costruita anche la via EMILIA SCAURI che da Luni si congiungeva alla pianura Padana con via AEMILIA LEPIDI ( attuale via Emilia).
Si tratta dello stesso percorso che, in epoca medievale, venne a costituire la via Francigena.
Nel 89 a.c. Luni ottenne la cittadinanza romana e, sotto Augusto, conobbe il suo massimo splendore.
Nel 1°secolo a.c., gli abitanti di Luni scoprirono il marmo bianco delle vicine ALPI APUANE e la città ne divenne il principale porto d' imbarco.
In seguito, un cittadino di Luni, EUTICHIANO, venne nominato papa e, quando morì, fu fatto santo.
Per questo, nel V secolo, la città fu scelta come sede vescovile e la sua importanza crebbe ancora.
Dopo diversi secoli di splendore ,arrivarono i saccheggiamenti dei barbari.
Nel medioevo Luni scomparve definitivamente e di lei è rimasto solo il nome, così magico che anche Dante nella Divina Commedia, la ricorda come la "città di cui esiste solo il nome".
Attualmente Luni è un importante sito archeologico, che vi consigliamo di visitare.
LUNAE, the town of MOON.
Since the prehistory, the estuary of the river Magra was used as commercial port.
Grecians and Etruscans used it for a pause during the sailing to France and Spain.
During their conquest of Italy, on the 177 b.C., Romans founded here a colony as an outpost for the war against Ligurians.
It was consecrated to the got DIANA LUCIFERA, here popularly called LUNAE (MOON).
Half moon was also the shape of the port.
The AURELIA road was extended from Pisa to here (109 b.C.), and later to France.
To mean the commercial importance of this town, it was connected to the PADANA pain, tracing a new road across the mountains: the AEMILIA SCAURI. This connected LUNAE to the AEMILIA LEPIDI (the actual Emilia).
That road is now a part of VIA FRANCHIGENA.
During the first century b.C. the marble of ALPI APUANE was discovered and LUNAE became the centre for its export.
On the 89 b.C. LUNAE obtained the roman citizenship, and under AUGUSTO became very reach.
Like the rest of the roman empire, it was repeatedly damages by barbarian invasions, but remained important.
Many rich houses were built along the banks of the river.
One of its citizens, EUSTICHIANO, became Pope and, when he died, was made saint.
Because of this, the town became bishop site (V century a.C.).
During the dark years of medieval age, when commerce stopped, LUNAE lost his importance.
In an age without low, to live on the sea was not safe and gradually people moved to the hills, were they founded the new town of SARZANA.
LUNAE literally vanished and, until few years ago, when archaeologists found it, only the name, so magic, went on living!
Dante, in the Divina Commedia, wrote about it like the town of which only the name lives!
