It seems that kids of all ages can find all sorts of special spots where they can hide out and play “pretend”. Some are just for solitary enjoyment, while others are shared with a select group of people, and those may attain the status of “clubhouse” or “secret fort”.
When we were kids, we had a nearby undeveloped area we called “The Weeds” (now the site urban sprawl) where we would have all sorts of adventures, and there were special trees that we would climb where we could remain hidden from those going by on the dirt road. Some neighbor kids (with accommodating parents) even had a stockade of logs and branches with a real lift gate around one tree.
We invite you to join us, along with Timmy and Lassie, Wally and the Beaver, and even Bart Simpson, in reliving those days by discovering this “Secret Fort”--and, yes, girls ARE allowed!
Be careful hunting for this one! Invaders have been known to use the Fort for their revelry, so rehide the cache well. Also, Cache In Trash Out (CITO), if necessary.
This special spot in Roche-A-Cri State Park is most easily accessible from the winter parking area at any time of the year, but it can also be reached from the main park (open approximately late April to late October) by crossing Carter Creek at the bridge. Trail maps, “The Visitor” newspaper, and Information on the annual park photography contest can be picked up at the kiosk in the winter parking area or at the main office information board.
A current Wisconsin State Parks sticker is required to park a vehicle in any part of the park at any time of year. Please stay on the marked trails at all times until you are near the cache, even though it may be more tempting to take a more direct route. Obey all park rules at all times.
Starting on January 1, 2013, hunting and trapping has been allowed in certain areas of Wisconsin state parks during certain hunting seasons. To see what the dates are and which areas are open to hunting in Roche-A-Cri State Park, click on the "Related Link" below the D/T star ratings at the top left of this cache page.
