Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE LISTED COORDINATES!

Back in October of 2007, I published Where's Dave? This cache introduced many Geocachers to the myth and the legend of "Dave". At that time, some had heard the stories, some had not. That cache highlighted over 20 Dave sightings and field reports between June and October scattered all over the Fox Valley area (and beyond...)

11 months after the first "Dave" sigthing, inquiring minds still want to know... "Who the heck is this dave?" Is he a real person? Were all these postings about Dave just a fad? Would they stop? Or would Dave live on like a legend and not pass by like fads often do? Well, it seems after a bit more research, I have come to find that the sightings have in fact not stopped! They continue on...

Not only do the field reports of "Dave" continue to trickle in, they have actually increased over time. So much so that I have to share them with you again.

In addition to these simple Dave notes, field reporters have now termed a new kind of Geocache "find honor". With FTF's (First to Find) becoming scarce around these parts due to the super-hero type speed of Dave, cachers have become very happy with earning the new honor of FAD (or First After Dave). Many of the sightings of "Dave" are now mere mentions of earning the ellusive FAD rights.

To solve this puzzle and find Dave, you will need to locate the cache listings containing "Dave Sightings" and now FAD's. This will take quite a bit of digging! You will then need to research numbers from those cache listings and then put them together and do a bit of math in the usual puzzle geocache fashion. For referenced Puzzle/Unkown caches you are looking for the published coordinates not the solution to the puzzle (unless noted). Usage of X & Y are place holders and reused. They do not signify repeated same characters.

We are still looking for new previously un-published photos of "Dave" in the wild. Unfortunately, I cannot offer additional bonus logs as an award for your picture. This is not the Discovery Channel so please do not post any pictures that your grandma would be embarrased to see! Thanks to all who have submitted your sightings for all to see.

2 Unregistered Geocoins have been purchased and they will be awarded for the FAD and FTF!! FTF is the Red Poppy Remembrance Geocoin like the one I already own. FAD is the All American Micro Geocoin - this is a hand giving the piece sign colored in red, white, and blue. These will be awarded after confirming you have logged the cache.

No Dave's were injured in the making of this cache.

Continued written records of the Dave Sightings and FAD's resumed on or slightly after November 5th 2007 and have been found as recent as within a few days of this posting. Most are in the Fox Valley area with a few reaching out further into the Wisconsin woods.

"Dave" Sightings from our geocaching field reporters include:

November 5, 2007
Here we read that having Dave along might help with finding a cache. Hmmm.. perhaps this "Dave" is good at geocaching....
marc_54140 - "...we looked for about ten minutes. Where's Dave when you need him?"
Cache ID(Waypoint): XXXXY8X (A = Y)

November 25, 2007
For most of November, all things go quiet. But then, things start to heat up. We then hear a mention of Dave bringing "special equipment" to a cache location.
labrat_wr - "Was that Dave I saw with the ladder?"

On that same day a reporter we have heard from many times in the past makes mention of Dave. Not just Dave, but a mystical place named after him. I would not want to be a geocacher living there!
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "STF is not so bad when living in Daveland. Hey I beat Dave to a Cache, Yay for me."

November 27, 2007
Two days later, we get back-to-back reports on Dave. One of them from a field reporter we had not heard sightings from in the past. Again, more references to Dave sleeping... man he sleeps a lot! How does he sleep so much and still manage to nab all those FTF's?
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "I think I just heard Dave's Front door slam shut behind him."
GizFinder - "Naw, he's sleeping but I bet he gets there early tomorrow morning..."
This cache was hidden by a pair of pranksters. Count the # of letters in both of their names. B = 2 digits added together.

That same day, Dave may have now acquired a costume. He's sounding more and more like a super-hero.
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "Does Dave have a red suit and a white Beard? Maybe he can take over for the big guy?"

December 3, 2007
A few days later, our most faithful reporter comes up with a potential method of slowing Dave down... I highly doubt it will work.
Homer & Marge - "Cheeto pointed out that we had an error with the geochecker."
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "That's one way to slow dave down."

December 6, 2007
On this day, the FAD makes it's debut. Our local cache wizard, "the Giz" summons this new cache honor. Thanks GizFinder for creating an achievable find award for the rest of us.
Sagasu - "Where's -cheeto-? Oops, too late, the ink is dry."
GizFinder - "Does Dave have an "in" with GC.com??? I just got the notice that this has been approved and I looked at it and Dave already found it! I think we need to initiate a new designation for finds...FAD (First After Dave)."
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "I second Giz's idea. Now going for a FAD would be quite an honor."
The name of this cache has a number in it. C = That number + 1

December 15, 2007
Then we hear Dave is again (you guessed it) sleeping.
Sagasu - "Dave is sleeping."

January 5, 2008
Dave sigthings then drop-off significantly during December. But during the first week of the new year, reports pour in. Here, our most faithful reporter notes that perhaps Dave has grown addicted to FTF's and an intervention might be in order.
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "Is this the 32 step program to wean Dave off of the FTF addiction?"
Digits from the FINAL (not the posted). This referenced puzzle has the usual A,B,C place holders. (C – F + E) from that solution is the answer needed for D.

January 5, 2008
Later that day.... Oh so close! Just like Big Foot, the only proof of Dave visiting are his tracks.
marc_54140 - "Veni, vidi, sivi. Out doing a WSQ run with Benny. First cache of the day. Followed Dave's tracks....."
E = # of Attributes minus 3.

January 15, 2008
Ten days later we get a psychic prediction...
seldom|seen - "I know where Dave will be tomorrow morning arond 8:30 with a fresh cup of coffee and his winter garb..."

... And then a 2nd psychic revelation. This time our "medium" proposes a side bet on his prediction. I think it's bad Karma to bet on psychic visions of the future.
seldom|seen - "I bet there's a Dave FTF on this one at 9:43am, give or take 5 minutes, any takers?"

January 16, 2008
The very next day, this reporter notes that apparently now even the streets are being named after "Dave". Of course the street is in Chilton, so who'll notice?
Sagasu - "Arriving in Chilton from the north, this was my first stop...." "....and as I crossed "Dave" Avenue...."

January 30, 2008
Continuing with the "ftf intervention", our psychic does some counseling...
seldom|seen - "Hey Dave, who says you "have to" chase anything? (snap!)"
F = Difficulty + the 2nd digit of the day Hidden – Terrain – # of letters in the cache owners alias + Difficulty

February 3, 2008
A few days later we see that a new field reporter earns the FAD honors. The FAD: what a noble achievement.
zoesbrother - "Only the second person to find the thing. I'd say this was pretty easy..." "Oh well got the FAD and on to the next one."

March 2, 2008
Then, we have a pretty quiet month with the next Dave sighting at the beginning of March. Another brand new eye witness. This witness makes up a new word to describe Dave or perhaps a simple typo? Maybe he means to say sagacious, which according to the Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary means "Of quick sense perceptions; keen-scented; skilled in following a trail. " One can't argue with this account of "Dave".
JimandLinda - "Missed "sagasous Dave" by 45 minutes. SL TFTC."

March 3, 2008
The very next day we have another cacher earning the FAD. Congratulations!
sloughfoot - "FAD (first after Dave) It's nice to know I can still do basic math."
G = Day Hidden X Answer to #2 + Answer to #3 (last digit)

March 8, 2008
Here we see a cacher hoping to grab the FTF rather than the FAD. They share this hope with many others.
In the knick of time - "We couldn't resist this one since it is so close to our home... ...we thought we might actually have a chance at FTF instead of only FAD(First After Dave)"

March 9, 2008
The next day we see an FTF log by our most trusted reporter who describes his find in a most peculiar way. He has coined a new term! "To pull a Dave" - To execute a cache search and log your find before anyone else knows the cache has been posted.
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "Well oh Well, Today I pulled a Dave. 38 minutes after getting published I finally got a FTF."

That same day we see proof that Dave may be adding "decoys" to area caches... Sneaky, but we are catching onto you.
JimandLinda - "FTF at 6:00 a.m..." "..Good decoy, Dave."

March 12, 2008
Another FAD is earned. This one's curious indeed....
Sagasu - "Yes, my first FAD..."
I = The first number in the cache name + # of caches this owner has hidden as of when this one was hidden.

March 21, 2008
Bring on the FAD!
Team Hemisphere Dancer - "That was a quick solve but I don't feel like leaving the house tonight. I will go for the FAD."

April 1, 2008
On April Fool's Day we have another report on Dave from a very mysterious reporter...
Iron Pyrite - "So Dave is the three blind mice thing yet another clue???"

April 12, 2008
Dave's health comes into question here as an FTF is earned by this new field reporter.
AnjaGSP - "FTF!!! dont know how this one sat several days without being discovered.is Dave ok?"

April 18, 2008
Wow, another cacher grabs the ftf before Dave... perhaps the intervention has worked?
gotta run - "Wonder if we'll be the FTF on this or if Dave's already made it up this far to the nort'. Oh look, a nice fresh log!"
This cache’s name has a number in it. H = the last digit of that number.

April 25, 2008
Proof positive?
JimandLinda - "HEY DAVE!!! The log was NOT signed when I found this hide. And it wasn't because of frozen ink in the pen! What's up with that?"

April 29, 2008
Finally, another "Dave" sighting in the wild. I think some were starting to worry.... Not me, I was sure he would be sighted again.
seldom|seen - "I also had my hand inches from the hide before Dave showed with his GPS..." "After a bit of searching and going over the beacon again, Dave pulled the ol switcheroo on me..."
J = Last 2 digits of the Year hidden + Difficulty + Terrain

Where's Dave Now???

Winter Friendliness Rating: Will get buried in the snow.

Congratulations to Sagasu on being the FTF and to labrat_wr on being the FAD.
