At the start of the Baviaanskloof Mega reserve (a World Heritage Site which is planned to be 500 000 ha) lies the Grootrivier Poort. The Baviaanskloof area is characterized by outstanding natural beauty and animal and plant biodiversity, and of landforms and natural processes that create and maintain this diversity. It also abounds with sites and artefacts that provide a fascinating reminder of the area's early and more recent human inhabitants.
The Baviaans is also known as the "Valley of the Baboons", and in this area you are very likely to spot them. Enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer. We often camp close by.
Our GPS was up to some tricks amoung/below the cliffs when we tried to record the position, so we'll "give away" the location...
It is no more than 10-15m from the gravel road, a little bit of climbing is required. Also give your eyes time to adjust to the light conditions, otherwise we hope you can see like a bat! ;-) Be carefull not to slip on any water seeping through the rock face onto the ground.
