How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Not only is this a traditional cache for logging a find, but it serves as a virtual cemetery for travel bugs and geocoins that have been muggled, stolen or otherwise gone missing.

I got this idea from a cache I read about in another state. Many of us have had a travel bug or geocoin go missing in action, never to be seen or heard from again. We end up tagging its location as “unknown”. Instead, why not give your missing bug or coin a final resting place, even if it is just in the virtual world. Here’s how it works:

First, find the actual cache, but please respect the cemetery rules, including posted hours of operation (dawn til dusk). Also, please use care not to step on any plant life. The cache is not located by any headstones. However, if there happens to be a funeral / burial service in the vicinity, please come back at a later time. The cache is a micro with only a log and no room for trade items. Please bring your own pen / pencil.

Once you have logged your find, you are then able to use the cache as a virtual cemetery for YOUR lost travel bugs and / or geocoins. Simply “Log Your Visit / Write Note” and drop your item(s). If you want, you can even share your story of sadness with us. And, should a miraculous recovery occur, you can always write another note telling us of your treasure’s return and grab it back into your possession.

If you have more time available, I encourage you to stop by the office and pick up a free copy of the Self-Guided Historical Tour booklet. With it, you can visit graves of many famous locals, including Milwaukee Mayors, Wisconsin Governors, Beer Barons, Industrialists, Military Heroes and more.

Permission to place this cache was granted by Thomas Kursel, President, Forest Home Cemetery.
