GEOBOx Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

moocher2notyou: It is with much remorse that I archive GEOBOx - this cache was probably the one that "hooked" me to continue geocaching as it was done so well - beautiful area with great hides and twists and turns to solve along the way. The best memory was that we did it as a family - every person finding at least one stage and working together. I think this is still my son's all time favorite cache. I have walked these trails many times checking on the cache - one of my favorite areas. Thanks to andGuest for originally placing the cache, and for letting me adopt the cache and area. Feels like an old friend is gone....but it is time to move on. Thanks to everyone who visited.

Geocache Description:

DISCLAIMER: THE HISTORY BELOW IS A COMBINATION OF FACT AND FICTION USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS CACHE ONLY. To get the accurate history of geocaching, please see “The History of Geocaching” under the GETTING STARTED section of the geocaching.com. This cache is on State Game Lands, so wear the appropriate orange attire during hunting season.

Once upon a time, the Geocaching Gods placed a geocache known as the GEOBOx. Its safekeeping was entrusted to me for safekeeping. It was never to be opened and kept safe as it contained not only good but also evil caches . Due to the degraded GPS accuracy for the general public, there was no problem safeguarding the GEOBOx.

Then came the fateful day on May 2, 2000 when the United States government “shut off” Selective Availability and the degradation of GPS signals with inaccuracy of up to 100 feet was no more. I knew the GEOBOx was no longer safe and immediately opened it to check to see if it was safe. When I opened the box I was unaware I was being watched by Dave Ulmer. The next day, he opened the GEOBOx and removed a black 5-gallon bucket and placed his own geocache, which contained a USA DeLorme Topo Map, 2 CD ROMs, cassette recorder, VHS Tape of “George of the Jungle”, Ross Perot book, 4 $1 bills, slingshot handle, and a now very famous can of beans. (Check out GCGV0P for more details.) Geocaching was born when the “Original Stash” was place the coordinates listed on the internet. With the location of the GEOBOx known it was only a matter of time before some evil escaped. The GEOBOx continues to try and fight this evil and will continue the battle as long there is “HOPE”.

This cache will take you on an adventure through part of State Game Lands #83. You will go in search of the GEOBOx as a means of completing this geocache. To successfully complete this cache you must find and sign 2 logbooks. You will find many types of cache hides and sizes along the way. Your search for this cache is at your own risk and I am not responsible for any injury that you may incur. You will get dirty, may get wet, have to bushwack to one stage, and will hike a good distance (about 3.5 miles) so plan accordingly. You will need a flashlight to locate the first stage. Like others before you; you may take and place one of the cache containers contained within the GEOBOx with the exception of the one labeled “HOPE”. You need “HOPE” to complete this cache? At the final is a reward for completing your journey. I ask that you please take only one. ALSO PLEASE DO NOT PUT PLACE ANY TRACKABLES IN THE FINAL OR ANY OTHER STAGE AS I DO NOT WANT THEM TO GET STRANDED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME.

To begin your journey go to the posted coordinates and go 30 feet at a bearing of 270 degrees. Your adventure begins here:

THERE IS SOME RISK OF INJURY SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT DO ANYTHING YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE PERFORMING. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURY THAT YOU MAY INCUR.
REMEMBER TO WEAR ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASON.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY TRACKABLES!
