Easy puzzle cache set up to pay tribute to Kanik who has left the
GeoHackers team. Enjoy the cache and bring your dog if possible.
Kanik would have wanted it that way. Cache is full of dog toys with
a rawhide bone for the FDTF and a lottery ticket for the first
human to find. She brought us good luck perhaps she can pass it
on.
On July 29, 2008 the GeoHackers found out that Kanik had a tumour
in her abdomen and that the likelihood of her surviving was very
slim. The team did not take the news well as Kanik has been with
Mr. GeoHackers for almost 14 years and was present when Mr. and
Mrs. GeoHackers first became a couple. WingSaber still considers
her "his dog." Babak has never had a day without her in the past 11
years. They have always shared the same food and water bowl without
a single fight. Amazing dogs both of them.
Trying to find a tribute to Kanik was not an easy one so the
GeoHackers and WingSaber decided to take her for one last walk in
the woods before visiting the vet. The goal was to find a cache and
hide a last cache on July 30th. The team went to get one last cache
with "the old dog." The cache had to be one that was not too far as
Kanik was having trouble walking but a jaunt in the woods always
helps. After a good hour we managed to both find and place caches.
Attached you can find a couple of pictures of Kanik and the final
picture of the GeoHackers with Kanik.
While we are sure that Kanik was not aware that we were chasing
Tupperware containers on the trail we do know she loved to be out
looking for them. The past couple of years caching with her was a
blast and we will miss her on the team.
Sadly on July 31st Kanik went to sleep for the last time. She was a
wonderful companion and had a great 14 years. We hope you enjoy the
cache as a celebration of her love of the outdoors.
To find the final cache that Kanik was a part of hiding you need to
find the final cache she found. This will not be hard. Park at the
posted coordinates to start your journey. From the posted
coordinates you need to find a cache that is within 300m. It must
also be the cache which the GeoHackers visited on July 30, 2008. In
this cache you will find the coordinates under the lid. Cache is in
an environemtally sensitive area just off the "trail" so please be
careful where you step. The coodinates were averaged over two days
to reduce some of the trouble we had with reception.
