Cedar Valley Nature
Trail
The Cedar Valley Nature Trail is a 52-mile linear trail running
from Hiawatha to Evansdale.
The trail surface is compacted limestone from County Home Road to
the north, and asphalt from N. Center Point Road in Hiawatha to the
County Home Road intersection.
The entire trail is accessible for persons with disabilities.
The trail is popular for walking, biking, jogging and cross-country
skiing.
The Cedar Valley Nature Trail was constructed on an abandoned
railroad right-of-way.
The terrain is flat the entire length as the original locomotives
required the grade be 2% or less.
From prairie grasslands to woodlands to scenic stream and river
crossings, the trail traverses numerous habitats and provides
abundant opportunities to view wildlife, wildflowers and enjoy
natural settings.
A trail permit is NO LONGER REQUIRED for use of the trail
(Effective February 2006).
The trail is jointly managed by the Linn and Blackhawk County
Conservation Boards.
