Geocache Description:

Come look for my pill container and view some old buildings!

You are standing on the corner of nearly 400 years of age in buildings. The 4 buildings around you are all listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

Monroe County Courthouse
This building was built in 1895 for a low $50,000. It was designed by a Chicago architect named Mifflin Bell. He designed the building in the Romanesque Revival style. It was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1982.

Sparta Post Office
The Post Office was formally housed in other buildings, but was finally assigned it's permanant home here in 1914. This building was built for $60,000. It was placed on the National Register of Historical places in 1992.

Masonic Temple
This building was constructed in 1923. It was designed in both the Classical Revival and Prairie School influences. Albert Parkinson, a regional architect and Masonic member designed it. It was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1987.

Free Library
The library also was housed in many places before finding a home here in 1902. Andrew Carnage funded $10,000 for the building with the agreement that the community donate $1,000 each year the library was housed here. Carnage also funded 64 other libraries in Wisconsin and 1,679 in the U.S. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982
