Geocache Description:

A small container hidden not far from a pair of landmarks that can be seen for many miles, and right next to another landmark that was once used to make maps.

The twin antenna masts on Mynydd Sylen can be seen from many different locations in South Wales - a distinctive a landmark to get your bearings while travelling in the area. As it can be seen from many locations I figured there would be a fairly spectacular view from here.

How right I was - there's something interesting to see in almost every direction - the Preseli hills, The Gower with Worms Head's distinct outline, the western mountains of the Brecon Beacons and of course, the DVLA building near Swansea (another of those distinctive landmarks)- and on a clear day, the north coast of Devon.

Worth coming here for the view alone but doubly worth it as there's also a cache here too!

The hillside here played an important part in Welsh history - on 25th August 1843, a mass meeting was held in an attempt to appease the Rebecca Riots. These started out as sporadic attacks on some of the toll gates that had been built to gain revenue from people travelling on Welsh roads - these attacks quickly gained support and became a time of mass unrest among the poor folk in Wales.

Note your GPS receiver may struggle for accuracy near to the Geocache, so take care not to be thrown off the trail when you on-top of the target.
