Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden on Rock Island State Park. Getting to the island will require 2 ferry trips to reach, or by personal boat. The island is a gem in Door County, WI. It was once owned by a very wealthy Chicago businessman named Chester Thordarson, who built a large boathouse and other structures on the island in the 1920's. There are no cars, bikes, or motorized vehicles allowed on the island. Amenities are few, but there are excellent campgrounds, trails to hike, the state's oldest lighthouse, and lots of peace and quiet.
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on WI DNR managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Form 2500-118 has been submitted to the DNR and tentative approval has been granted to place the cache by DNR officer Randy K. Holm. (Property manager Kirby Foss was not on the island at the time of our visit, but Officer Holm granted permission in his absence).
The cache is hidden near a series of 4 rock carvings made by members of Thordarson's work crew during their free time. Make sure to look closely along the rock walls for all 4 carvings. The cache is a medium sized container and shouldn't be too hard to find. The hard part about finding this cache is just getting to the island, but the trip will be well worth it!
