Geocache Description:

Kätkö Turun biologisen museon läheisyydessä. A cache near The Biological Museum of Turku.

Museo on avoinna ti–su 09:00–17:00.

HUOM: Camo on regular-kokoinen, sisempi purkki on small-kokoinen. Purkkiin mahtuu pieniä matkalaisia.

Varo lenkkeileviä jästejä!

The Biological Museum of Turku operates in an over 100-year old wooden Art Nouveau style villa on the Samppalinnanmäki hill. The construction of the museum was funded by Swedish vice-consul Alfred Jacobsson and her wife Hélène. They had gotten the idea to build a biological museum in Turku after visiting the Biological Museum of Stockholm. The museum building was designed by architect Alex Nyström who has designed several other buildings in Turku. The first animals for the museum were caught and stuffed by Gustaf Kolthoff, designer of the display in the Biological Museum of Stockholm. The canvas backgrounds for the dioramas were painted by his son Kjell Kolthoff.

Nowadays there are thirteen dioramas and they illustrate Finnish fauna from Turku archipelago to the fells of Lapland.

The museum opening hours: Tue–Sun 09:00–17:00.

Note: Camo is regular-sized, but the actual cache is small-sized. There's room for small trade items.

Beware jogging muggles!
