How Geocaching Works

A small cache located in a safe area away from the main stream traffic.
Jackson County Forest has within itself an area that has been lovingly referred to over the years as, the "Sandy Plains". This cache is located amongst the sandstone bluffs that overlook this area. In the turn of the last century, loggers moved into this area, and took out the surrounding White Pine forest, opening it up to the local farmers who then came in and removed the remaining stumps for agricultural uses. After realizing the soils were poor to begin with, the depression period ushered many of the homesteading families on to better farming areas. What was left was a large region of wind blown 'sandy plains' and scrub oak hills...
There are no established trails to speak of to this cache, so make sure you have supportive footwear.
The Jackson County Forest is open to the public for recreational use. With that said, this area is heavily used during the deer gun season, and blaze orang clothing is expected during this period.
We would like to thank James Zahasky, JCF Administrator for giving us permission to place Geo Caches on Jackson County Forest Property.
