Geocache Description:

In the early 1800"s Matthew Yates found some apple trees near a creek bank in Fayette County and started to cultivate them. He took cuttings and eventually had an orchard. At one time hundreds of acres of Yates apples covered parts of Fayette County.

The Yates apple long a southern favorite is prized for it's fine flavor and long keeping qualities, it grows well from the mountains to the coast. The small apple has yellowist-white flesh and is tender and juicy. The apple rippens in October and keeps very well until April.

Matthew Yates was a cousin of my grandfathers and was connected to many of the families in the Bethany community and Fayette County.

There is a "Susan" for the first to find. There is plenty of parking. Bring your own pen or pencil.

Please do not do this cache at night and respect the final resting place of these people.

From the posted coordinates go at 3 degrees north a distance of 4 chains plus 2 rods and I pace to find the final cache.
