Geocache Description:

A simple two-stage, family-friendly multi located near the City Arboretum in the NW corner of Scott Park. The arboretum, which was once farmland, now grows a different crop. The city uses this area to temporarily grow a variety of trees until they are replanted elsewhere.

The Little Brickmaster joined Finance Guy for a nice snow hike on a winter’s day to hide this cache. At times, the snow was so deep that Little had to be carried. As we approached the area of the final stage, we spotted a funny looking squirrel scampering up a tree. The squirrel had the unfortunate luck of somehow missing its tail. Keep your eyes out, and perhaps you will spot this little guy as well.

The listed coordinates will take you to a micro at stage 1. The first stage reveals the coordinates for the final stage. Depending upon the route you take between stages, the round-trip traveling distance should be less than one-quarter mile.

The terrain is mostly flat between stages except for the last few feet of stage 2. Bug repellent is advised during the summer months. Be aware of poison ivy and thorns near stage 2.

STAGE 1: When the Lego Crew goes on walks or bike rides, the Little Brickmaster always stops at this location. The stage 1 container is a micro hidden in the typical fashion and should be accessible by taking only a couple of steps off of the trail. Stealth required! Please be aware that muggles can quickly come around the corner or may be watching out nearby windows.

STAGE 2: There are likely three different paths you can take from stage 1 to stage 2. Two of these routes will present more of a challenge than the other. Please do not walk through any private yards. Some bushwhacking through very light underbrush will be required the last 50-75 feet. The final stage is a decon container. Please bring a pen.

Parking close to this cache will be difficult. Parking on Court Street is prohibited, and the condo parking areas near stage 1 are reserved for residents only. The best parking options are along the side streets of the nearby subdivisions or in the Scott Park lot off of Scott Boulevard, approximately one-half mile SW of the stage 1 coordinates. Leave your car in this lot, enjoy the walk, and then try your skills at the other Scott Park caches on the way back.

This cache has been placed with permission from the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department. Park hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
