Geocache Description:

onalaska`s newest park does`nt even have a name yet I picked sias Isles

This cache is dedicated to Ben and Mrs. Floyd sias

Mrs Floyd Sias was born on a rural farm in Onalaska in 1897 graduated fron onalaska hig school and then from UWL was a teacher in Onalaska for 19 years,was person of the year in 1971 from the chamber of comerce married Ben Sias in 1937

Ben sias was born on June 28,1888 was on the La Crosse county board from 1928 to 1938 the areas concervation was a great consern to him. he made several relultions on the 9ft channel for the mississippi,and helped in creating the Dresback dam and the onalaska spillway to create the lake. and was the mayor of onalaska from 1946 to 1950 him and his wife built and ran several bussiness
one of his bussiness was Sias Isles it was creates fron man made materials such as sawdust left over from the old lumber mills then covered with black dirt and planted with grass and trees The Sias ran sias Isle for about 20 years and sold to Ronald Schams and the to the ciy of onalaska that now is this very park

Ben Sias died 1950 at the age of 61 and was a pillar to the history of onalaska
Mrs Floyde Sias died april 1985 was a grand lady in the history of onalaska so this park deserves their name this park is also just a pile of sawdust left over from the sawmills this area is manmade
