Nous laissons l'accès par le parking sud, mais nous conseillons l'accès par le parking nord. C'est beaucoup plus simple.
Ce tunnel a été construit par Jean-Baptiste Marc en 1842.
Emu par la pauvreté des paysans, cet entrepreneur imagina de créer un système pour irriguer leurs terres. Il y dépensa toute son énergie et sa fortune personnelle.
Ce tunnel faisait partie de son plan d’irrigation de la plaine de Valentine.
Mais, découragé et désespéré de n’arriver à aucun résultat, il mit fin à ses jours en se jetant dix ans plus tard dans la Garonne, ce même fleuve sur lequel il avait tant compté…….
Garez vous à la position indiquée.
Suivez sur environ 600m le chemin balisé jaune à votre droite, le long des berges de la Garonne : vous trouverez plusieurs portes prévues à travers les clôtures.
Au début, sur 40m environ, vous marcherez entre la Garonne (rive droite) et un ancien canal d’ amenée. Vous pourrez voir la double voûte de l’ancien moulin à eau, à une cinquantaine de mètres du parking à droite. (voir photo).
Anecdote authentique :
J’ai bien failli placer le « trésor » - geocaching carrément sur un « trésor » - ciste ! (voir photo).
Pourquoi, sur un terrain aussi étendu, deux cacheurs ont pensé exactement au même endroit pour placer leur boîte ?
L’œil du cacheur/chercheur de trésor obéit-il à des règles universelles ? (..Un sujet d’étude..)
La réception étant très mauvaise, pour ne pas dire nulle à l’emplacement du trésor, servez vous des spoilers !
La position donnée est celle qui a pu être relevée le plus près possible de la cache.
Prenez une lampe de poche, elle pourra vous être utile ! ATTENTION à ne pas aller trop loin : il y a un trou !!!
23 Novembre 2014 :Nous venons au tunnel pour une visite de maintenance, et ... impossible de retrouver notre boîte !!! Qu'est-il arrivé au terrain, que nous ne pouvons pas le reconnaître ? Nous préférons déposer une nouvelle boîte, sûrement plus facile à trouver que l'ancien "trésor" en attendant de revenir le chercher, avec l'aide de ceux qui l'ont trouvé !!!
D'autre part, nous avons découvert un nouvel accès, plus facile peut être, à part un tronçon de descente un peu raide (attention aux glissades en temps humide !) que nous voulons vous faire connaître. Nous ajoutons un waypoint pour le nouveau parking, (côté Nord), ainsi qu'une nouvelle cache sur la hauteur pour la vue : Au-dessus du tunnel.
6 Avril 2015 : Nous voici de retour au tunnel, et cette fois, nous trouvons notre ancienne cache ! Il n'y en a donc bien qu'une à présent. Tout est mis à jour. Bon Géocaching !

This tunnel was built by Jean-Baptiste Marc in 1842.
Moved by the farmers’ poverty, this businessman imagined to create a system to irrigate their lands. He spent all his energy and personal fortune to this purpose.
This tunnel was a part of his irrigation plan for the valley of Valentine.
But, disheartened and despaired to come to no result, ten years later, he threw himself into the Garonne, the very same river he had relied so much on……
Park your car at the indicated position.
Follow for about 600m the (yellow) waymarked path on your right, along the banks of the Garonne: you will find several doors through the fences.
At the beginning, for about 40m, you will walk between the Garonne (right bank) and a former feeder canal. You will see the double arch of the ancient water mill, about fifty metres from the car park, on your right. (See picture).
Authentic anecdote :
I nearly placed the “geocaching-treasure” right on top of a “ciste-treasure”! (see picture)
Why, on such a large spot, did two cachers think exactly of the very same hiding place for their boxes?
Does the cacher’s / hunter’s eye obey universal laws? (…good subject for a study..)
The satellite reception being very poor, not to say zero where the treasure is, have a look at the spoiler before starting the adventure!
Take a flashlight, you may find it useful! BE CAREFUL and don't walk too far: there is a big hole!!!
November 23, 2014: We are back to the tunnel for a maintenance visit and ... No way, we just can't find our box!!! What happened to the spot, that we can't recognize it? We prefer to hide a new box, surely easier to find than the former "treasure", until we come back to get it, with the help of those who have found it!!!
Besides, we have discovered a new, maybe easier way, (except for a stretch of steep descent: beware of slipping in wet weather!) that we want you to know. We add a waypoint for the new carpark (North side) and a new cache on the heights for the view : Au-dessus du tunnel.
April 6, 2015: Back at the tunnel and this time, we find our first cache. Only one left, then. Everything is updated. Happy Geocaching!
