Geocache Description:

Some of my colleagues from outside of the area have described parts of Hampshire akin to Middle Earth. If this is the case then this area has to be part of the Shires.

This is a beautiful 20 minute walk through a National Trust Reserve which starts from the back of the car park by the childrens play area of The Horse and Jockey pub in Curbridge and continues alongside the River Hamble. This leads you to an enchanted Fairy Tree decorated by children with gifts, trinkets and poems.

Co-ords to the pub are; N50 54.1946 W1 15.5170 from Botley stay on the Tichfield Road and the H&J is on your right, no need to turn off the main road.

The cache is a wooden box about the size of a letter box which contains a notebook, pen, pencil and various other Hobbit goodies.
Be sure to take something extra for the Fairy Tree, we need to keep our cache guardians happy although please ensure that it is a 'natural' item as the tree is tidied by National Trust volunteers now and again. Any unsightly items can be removed to retain the beauty of the area.

Once you have located the cache you may if you wish continue further along the river to explore the wildlife and surroundings which soon opens to a quiet spot where the rivers edge is more easily accessible.

The pathway is well used and open but can get boggy therefore appropriate footwear is recommended. As there are some short but narrow walkboards to cross this site isn't wheelchair friendly and childrens buggies may need to be folded and carried at some points. At the request of the National Trust Warden please ensure that you keep your family clear off the rotting Ash Tree for safety reasons, the cache is not around here. Additionally please respect the Wildlife and ground flora which is abundance in the Spring. 'Placed with the kind permission of the National Trust' Many thanks.

Have fun but beware, this is a popular spot and Orks are a plenty :)
