A fairly easy find meant to take you to a pretty part of Florida. A healthy walk of 1.2 miles in, and 1.2 miles out.
Honeymoon Island is a gem off the west coast of Florida. On your journey to this cache you will see many Ospreys (also known as Fish Hawks) and, if they are still there, an American Bald Eagle nest; as of this writing (2-28-09) they believe the eggs have hatched. [EDIT: right now 1-11-10 you need to take a slight detour to get the the cache. The Eagles are nesting again so part of the Pelican trail is protected by a fence. I guess that makes it a LITTLE BIT more of a challenge!]. The Osprey trail is through the woods and the Pelican trail is along the west side of the Island which is Gulf Coast beach. The trails allow dogs (even GeoCharlie our 11 month old Golden Retriever), and there is also a wonderful dog beach on Honeymoon Island (follow signs). Permission to place the cache by Peter the Park Manager (Geocacher-friendly and a really nice guy). Cache contains various swag including dog toys (donated by GeoCharlie), kids toys, ‘precious’ stones and coins and other valuables. Spend some time at this spot, it’s a nice, quiet diversion from busy Florida tourist areas. Take a swim. Bring water especially during summer months.
