This land and the housing developments around it was once part of the Eau Claire County Mental Health Facility, also know as the County Farm. Residents were originally housed where Dove Healthcare currently sits at the corner of Truax and 14th St. and the land that was farmed was in this area and to the East.
Residents who died at the facility were oftentimes buried at this little cemetery at the edge of the Farm. I notice the many markers listed as "unknown" and can only imagine a time when many residents lived an anonymous life and died an anonymous death.
A short time ago the city protected this site and erected a stone memorial at the entrance. It's an interesting read.
