Geocache Description:

About 50 feet east of one of the trails.

Park closes at dusk.

In keeping with the theme of naming chaches after family members, I'm naming a cache after myself. Deaner is a nickname I had growing up and some people back home still call me that.

The one thing I have been passionate about my whole life is the White Tailed Deer. I love everything about them and have enjoyed hunting them for over 30 years.

Every winter about Feb.-March time frame in Iowa when the sun is at the southern most part of the sky and the bucks hormones are about thier lowest, they drop (shed) thier deer antlers. The reason they grow them in the first place is for sparing with other bucks to see who is the dominant buck is so they can have the most girlfriends. Once they are shed, squirrels, mice, woodchucks, and coyotes love to eat them for the calcium they hold.

Every spring around Des Moines and the surrounding area, I spend many hours and walk quite a few miles looking for the shed antlers. I've found a few over the years. They are mostly small ones but I've found a couple really big ones too.

If you are wondering why I am telling you all this stuff is cause I'm just giving you clues on what to look for. I've put something out in Fort Des Moines park that holds a bison tube. You will need to bring something to write with cause it only holds a log.

Hopefully an animal hasn't taken the cache yet...

I forgot to add this before but I want to thank Mrs Olkb and bucknuts for their contributions towards this cache.
