I’ve seen this done by Arthur & Trillian in Fulton,
and by FullQuiver in Columbia. This is similar to those, but with a
slightly different twist. It may look hard at first, but with a
little thought before starting, it is actually pretty simple and
much can be accomplished before even turning on a GPS.
Here is how it works. There are ten numbered pictures of church
steeples provided. You need to match the church name to the
steeple. The number of the steeple will replace the church name in
the final coordinates. Coordinates are provided for each church,
but the coordinates are only to the location that the picture was
taken from, not the church itself, and not even which church
picture was taken there. Some of the churches may be a ways off,
but should be obvious after a quick glance around. Be careful, some
are trickier than others.
You should never have to leave your car to see the churches from
the coordinates given, and may not even need to go to the
coordinates to get the answer. Also, some of the churches are used
more than once and some not at all. Even if you have to drive to
every coordinate, it should still take under an hour to finish the
cache. Most of them are close together.
The Churches (in alphabetical order):
- First Baptist Church
- First Christian Church
- First Presbyterian Church
- First United Methodist Church
- Handy Chapel
- Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church
- Our Redeemer Lutheran Church
- Southside Assembly of God
- St Peter Catholic Church

The Final Coordinates:
N First Baptist - United Methodist° Mt Olive - Trinity .
Trinity - First Christian - Mt Olive
W Mt Olive - United Methodist - First Baptist° St Peter - Handy
Chapel . First Christian - United Methodist - First
Presbyterian
Coordinates where pictures were taken from (in no particular
order):
- N 39° 06.780 W 093° 12.003
- N 39° 07.221 W 093° 11.875

- N 39° 07.160 W 093° 11.633
- N 39° 07.329 W 093° 11.776
- N 39° 07.111 W 093° 11.399
- N 39° 07.290 W 093° 11.704
- N 39° 07.173 W 093° 11.811

- N 39° 07.116 W 093° 11.608
Just a suggestion, but when I did the similar cache in Fulton, I
picked up the steeples while driving around town looking for other
caches. The final cache is a medium sized lock and lock container
with a log book, pen, a geocoin, a travel bug, and various small
trading items to start with. The coin is one that I found in
another cache I maintain that has a special mission. It is
collecting first to find stories. I thought it would be appropriate
to place it for the first to find here.
The Steeples:
Permission was obtained for placing the final cache, but Sunday
morning probably wouldn’t be a good time for hunting. I
suppose that might have been a hint.
Congrats to aaron7575 on the ftf!
