Geocache Description:

The cache is a 7 ½ x 5 x 3 plastic container covered w/ camouflauge duct tape. The located just off the level area in a roadside park a few miles south of Lansing, IA on X56 a paved road leading north from Harpers Ferry, IA. This cache is part of the www.experiencemississippiriver.com multi-state geocaching effort. This is one of the caches for the state of Iowa. Inside the box are local area souvenirs, flyers and a log book.

The Great River Road Marquette to the Minnesota State Line is full of natural splendor – many areas of idyllic and peaceful pastures, other sections where the hills tower on both sides. It is especially beautiful the last week of September and first two weeks of October. The hills are then ablaze with an amazing array of fall foliage colors. Don’t be in a hurry to get to the cache and get out – the road is 1 lane in each direction and there aren’t many places to pass – so plan on just moseying up and enjoying the peace. Check out Harpers Ferry, Walkon Junction and other wide spots in the road. Effigy Mounds National Monument is also a fun place to explore the history of mound builders, the early Native Americans who lived on the Mississippi.
