Geocache Description:

Small plastic jar hidden in obvious location near the New Berlin Recreation Trail

I originally wanted to hide this cache at N43 00.611 W088 04.069(rough W coordinate). If you have a minute, walk over to these coordinates. There is an old staircase that was used when this rec trail was a set of electric rail lines that had service from Milwaukee to Waukesha and then beyond to Pewaukee (and maybe Oconomowoc, although I'm not sure). As you can see, the staircase is full of debris and you would have to scale the fence to access it. I didn't want the difficulty to be too high, as I like to keep things simple. I grew up in the neighborhood to the north of this trail, and as kids, we spent many hours playing on this abandoned staircase. If you look on the north side of the trail, on the cement wall, you can see evidence of another old staircase. There is no need to go anywhere near the exsisting rail line. This line was originally owned by the Chicago & Northwestern. Now it's owned by the Union Pacific. This line now ends in Waukesha and is lucky to have one short round trip per day run along it. This was quite a busy corridor in the early 20th century. Now replaced by the interstate and other connecting highways.

This series is intended to bring attention to some of the smallest government bodies and jurisdictions within the state. The entire state of Wisconsin is broken up into Cities, Villages, and Townships (or Towns). These boundaries can change over the course of time.

In Wisconsin there are currently:
190 Cities
403 Villages
1,258 Towns
