Geocache Description:

The cache was replaced with a new buffalo tube. Please take care in replacing it to its hiding spot.

In August of 2004, a strong micro-burst (mini-tornado) began on the top of Libby Hill and snapped dozens of 100 year old pine trees about 20 feet up. This micro geocache will take you to the site of this event. The storm created a large open space that is about 200 feet wide and proceeded all the way down the hill to Route 26. Most the trees destroyed were mature pine trees in Libby Hill Forest. The damage destroyed ½ mile of the trails but with the help of volunteers and the Pinelands Chipping crew, the trail was cleared. The logs of the destroyed trees provided income to buy a snowmobile and groomer that now provides free cross country skiing in the winter on these trails. Access the trail system by parking at trail system N 43 54.125 / W 070 21.223. Walk behind school to get to the Moose Odyssey Trail Kiosk where you can borrow a trail map if needed. Use the Moose Odyssey to get to this cache. Be sure to visit the other 5 geocaches on Libby Hill and make it a great geocache day! Please note: Once grooming begins in the winter you may only get to this cache via skiis. Please do not walk or snowshoe on groomed ski trails in winter.
