Geocache Description:

Regular cache in an ammo box next to placid Lake Jacqueline

Lake Jacqueline is a quiet 40 acre lake in northern Portage County. It is a non-motorized seepage lake with a maximum depth of about 12 feet that is home to many species of raptors and water foul. The lake also supports deer, fox and other mammals in the area and we've seen huge snapping turtles in the lake. The fish in the lake are sustained through the Lake Association's aerator placed in the lake to avoid winter fish kills.

Chances are if you drive by you wouldn’t even notice the lake was even there, but it is a nice place for a paddle or maybe even wet a line. The boat launch and the north end of the lake are both very shallow, but not too shallow for most non-motorized watercraft. Canoes, rowboats and kayaks are ideal.

There is a bog island directly across from the boat landing making what appears to be a moat or channel to the rest of the lake. If there is a lack of precipitation there the channel can get low making it more difficult to get into the lake, but is almost always passable.

FYI the boat launch is only open dawn to dusk, so plan accordingly.

This lake is also home to many weekend cabins and a handful of hearty souls who live here year around. If you see a local say hi. Most of us don’t bite!
