Las Boleares Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

This is a cache on a gem of an island and the island has a history too and really deserves a cache.

Las Boleares (Bolærne)

In 1916 the Defence Department bought  a group of Islands called Bolærne. They built a coastal fort there with the purpose to protect the Naval Yards and Docks in Horten (a little further up the Oslo fjord)and also to protect the Norwegian capital Kristiania (Oslo).

Later on the fort was involved in the military actions in April 1940.

In 2002 the Coastal Fort was closed down and the Bolærne Islands were sold to the Vestfold County Administration.

Try this link for more information on the History of the fort   (Sorry, only in Norwegian)

Seashore

The old military installations are now used for tourist purposes. You can get lodging and food and there is also a guest harbour.

If you don't have your own vessel of some kind, you are probably interested in the timetables for transport to the islands.

As you can see from the pictures on the left this group of island has everything: sea shore, shaded paths and good viewpoints.

Shaded path

Botanically, the island(s) are also very interesting.

The cache is to be found close to one of these viewpoints.

The cache:

To keep it all proper for an old military installation, the cache container is a one-man army food container.

It contains the usual stuff: log, pencils, stashnote, some items for trading and an FTF pin for the first visitor.

If the FTFer also wants a FTF-certificate, please take contact .

Open view

The cache is located on the island Østre(Eastern) Bolærne.

This is the island were where the boat arrives and also the one with the tourist facilites.

For more information on the tourist activities on Bolærne visit this link. (Also in English and German)
