Zeleznicni nestesti u Steblove bylo dosud nejtragictejsi nehodou v dejinach ceske zeleznicni dopravy. Doslo k ni 14. listopadu 1960 v podvecernich hodinach na trati Pardubice – Hradec Kralove (dnes oznacena jako trat 031) priblizne 1500 metru od stanice Steblova smerem na Pardubice, kdyz se celne srazil osobní vlak 608 Liberec – Pardubice s osobnim vlakem 653 Pardubice – Hradec Kralove. Nasledky srazky jeste zhorsil pozar, ktery vypukl pote, co zhave uhli vynesene z parni lokomotivy vlaku 608 zapalilo naftu unikajici z motorove lokomotivy vlaku 653. Celkem si nestestí vyzadalo 118 mrtvych a 110 zranenych, nektere zdroje uvadeji 110 mrtvych a 106 zranenych. Viniky nehody byli shledani clenové posadky vlaku 608, ktery vyjel ze stanice Steblova bez svoleni vypravciho a pres znamení „Stuj!“ na odjezdovem navestidle. Byli odsouzeni k nekolikaletym trestum odneti svobody. Tehdejsi media, podlehající komunisticke strane, nesmela o této nehode (stejne jako o jinych podobnych udalostech v socialistickych zemich) podrobneji informovat, aby neposkodila povest socialistickeho zrizeni.
The Stéblová train disaster was a railway accident that occurred on November 14, 1960 at 4:45 CET in Stéblová in North-Eastern Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. A passenger steam train collided with a diesel railcar at full speed during their departure. 118 people died in the accident and 110 were badly injured. The accident occurred when one of the trains crossed the overlapping tracks without proper permission. The driver received a departure sign, but not from the station officer. Due to foggy conditions, the red light signaling to stop was not seen. When the crash occurred, in order to prevent an explosion, hot coal and ashes had been disposed from one of the steam engines, but caught fire when oil began to leak from the diesel engine train. The victims (mostly commuters returning from work) were killed due to the fire and smoke. The incident was only briefly mentioned in the national media, if not ignored completely.
